Cae Du is a Bed and Breakfast in north wales, just south of Ffestiniog. We went there as we both love North Wales, and we initially selected it on the strength of their location and website.
Their location is ideal for Snowdonia. The house is at the foot of two mountains, called the Manods. Views to the east stretch across to Cardigan Bay. To the north the main cluster of mountains of Snowdonia are visible, great hulks of rock pointing to the sky. Put simply, the views are superb. Clouds coming in from the Irish sea collide with the mountains in the distance and is something you can look at for hours. The cottage has its own very well maintained garden with a stream running through it
The cottage itself is fantastic. The downstairs comprises of a lounge / dining room and a seperate lounge, both with their own fireplaces. There are period features a plenty and one or two low beams to catch you out if you're not paying attention. In the hallway are plenty of guide books and maps, and Chris and Sue (who run the place) are more than happy to lend them out. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, all ensuite. The rooms are not spectacular or flash but are cosy, comfortable, and relaxing. I'm over 6' and had no trouble sleeping in the bed.
Chris and Sue are originally from London way but now are more than happy living in the mountains. They clearly love their life at the moment and it shows. Very amenable with a genuine enthusiasm for their home and their area. They bent over backwards to make us feel at home and loved to help us plan our walks. Chris would draw maps for us for how to get places.
The trump card however is their evening food, which you don't have to take on but having had it I wouldn't have it any other way. Everyone sits arounds the dining table and Sue cooks up a wonderful 3 course meal which never failed to be delicious.
In terms of prices I can't remember the exact prices, it was last year we were there. But to the best of my recollection it was approx £130 for 2 people for 2 nights, including 2 evening meals and breakfast.
Either way, it comes thoroughly recommended.
Overall rating: 91/2 out of 10.

The Plan
Well, I thought we every so often go out to eat at restaurants, stay in B&B's and occasionally hotels. Sometimes they're very good, sometimes very bad. So I thought I might as well post about them, to give random Joe Public a chance to see what we thought. I understand these things pop up in Google Searches quite easily.....
